Ryan González (they/them) is an actor and choreographer with a career in cabaret, film and theatre. Ryan is known for playing the iconic role of Usnavi de la Vega in In the Heights, winning the Sydney Theatre Award for Best Actor 2018 and reprising their role at the Sydney Opera House 2024 and Comedy Theatre 2025.
Most recently they played Bud in Gutenberg! The Musical for Hayes Theatre, Francis Fryer in Calamity Jane at the Opera House, joined Opera Australia Orchestra in Strictly Baz Luhrmann - The Concert, Indie Symphony II for Orchestra Victoria and will be appearing as Beau in the World Premiere of Mackenzie for Bell Shakespeare. Ryan choreographed and assistant directed Head Over Heels and will be choreographer for upcoming musical concert presentation of Nails The Musical at the eternity playhouse.
They originated the role of Dave in the world premiere production of Zombie! The Musical, saluted Barbra Streisand’s legacy in To Barbra with Love Concert and toured as Santiago in Moulin Rouge! The Musical. In 2019 Ryan starred as Frankie Valli in the national tour of international blockbuster musical, Jersey Boys, receiving a Greenroom Award nomination and Sydney Theatre Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical.
Ryan performed the role of Roy in Sydney Theatre Company’s Co-Production of Fun. Home and appeared as Gabriel in Melbourne Theatre Company’s Kiss of the Spider Woman. Ryan recorded vocals for the studio concept album for new Australian rock musical Dubbo Championship Wrestling and Original Cast Album of Zombie! The Musical.
They played drag artiste Freddy in The View Upstairs, also Hayes Theatre, and took over the role of Charles Guiteau in Assassins for the Sydney Opera House season. They played Eddie Ryan in Funny Girl in Concert and featured as a soloist in the Bernstein Songbook Series, both for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Ryan won Best Cabaret Performer for the 2016 Broadway World Award for their one man show ¡Hispanic Attack!

Ryan’s creative credits include, Gypsy (Resident Choreographer), Young Frankenstein (Associate Choreographer) and American Psycho (Associate Choreographer).
